BUNCH OF BASTARDS:
The “full force folk” band Bunch of Bastards is coming to party at De Zwarte Ruiter. They have something to celebrate. In the fall of 2013, this “bunch of rascals” played their very first set at Grote Markt. A second milestone, 10 years and 10 band member changes later. What better way to celebrate than at the same square and with the release of their second album? Right? That’s exactly what’s going to happen.
The guys from Bunch of Bastards believe they draw inspiration from the same source as their heroes The Pogues, The Mahones, Flogging Molly, and Dropkick Murphys. They perform some songs from those bands, along with a few Irish traditionals. They are also bold enough to write their own songs. With around 150 performances under their belt, they are a well-oiled machine. In 2022, they played at the Saint Patrick’s Day festival outdoors at Grote Markt. They’ll be back there on St. Patrick’s Day 2024!
Their “full force folk” is a festive combination of melody and energy, featuring a half-Irish singer, banjo, mandolin, tin whistle, and accordion, all on a solid folk-punk foundation. Sometimes more subdued, but mostly exuberant and thirsty, under the motto “DRINK, HOLLER and DANCE!!!”
